Guppy Feeding Schedule

A feeding schedule should match the fish's age, condition, and tank maintenance. Healthy adults usually need fewer meals than fast-growing fry.

Sample schedules

Adult guppies

Morning: small staple meal

Evening: small alternate food, or skip when body condition is full

Juveniles

Offer smaller meals more often when practical, while watching water quality closely.

New fry

Use tiny, nutritionally dense meals several times a day if the nursery can be kept clean.

Use the fish—not the clock—to refine portions

Too much

Food remains, bellies stay swollen, nitrate rises

About right

Food is finished quickly and fish remain well conditioned

Too little

Fish lose condition or weaker fish never reach food

Competition

Spread food so shy fish have a chance

Can guppies have a fasting day?

Healthy adult guppies can generally handle an occasional light or no-food day, but fry and underweight or recovering fish have different needs. A fasting day is not a substitute for fixing chronic overfeeding.
